Doggie dining: the best dog-friendly cafes in Adelaide

If there’s one thing we love more than coffee, it’s coffee in the company of our canine companions. Luckily for Adelaide pawrents, it seems a host of local cafés are well ahead of the game when it comes to our love of all things fluffy and four-legged. We’ve put together a list of our top five dog-friendly hangouts to celebrate the best of fur-friendly South Australia.

The Flying Fig, North Adelaide

Based in North Adelaide, this delicatessen delivers everything you want in a breakfast bonanza - local produce, a pup-friendly philosophy, and home-smoked pastrami that’s simply to die for. Staying true to the style of the true Jewish delicatessen, they aim to make as much as they can in-house, from their delicious homemade bagels to home-smoked meats and even their own soft drinks. While you’re tucking into the goodies on offer, your pooch can enjoy a treat of their own with a specially made puppuccino...just make sure they come dressed to impress for a chance to be crowned the next fig doggo of the week.

Fred Eatery, Aldgate

If you’re taking a trip to the Adelaide Hills, Fred Eatery is a must-addition to the dog-friendly itinerary. Whilst their all-day menu has long been a hit amongst their hooman clientele , they’ve also  built up quite the furry following over the years, building their own floof tribe in the form of Friends of Fred. While you’re enjoying a cup of their custom-blend coffee, your pup can tuck into a lactose-free latte, complete with a complimentary dog biscuit and plenty of pats from the pup-loving staff. Best of all for us designer lovers, they’ve recently opened up their own homewares store right next door...as if you needed another excuse to visit!

Octeine Coffee

If you and your pup have a love for adventure, you’ll feel right at home in the company of the folks at Octeine Coffee. Situated minutes away from Adelaide’s CBD, the warehouse-inspired café is the watering hole for Adelaide’s adventurers and outdoor explorers, and there’s nothing they love more than the company of our four-legged friends! Either pick up a treat if you’re out exploring, or choose something more substantial to eat in-house, and don’t forget to order a puppuccino for your VIPooch.

Whistle & Flute, Unley

Cafe and liquor bar, Whistle & Flute, is a local favourite amongst the four-legged residents of Adelaide’s southern suburbs, so you’ll rarely go there without encountering a wagging tail or the pitter-patter of tiny paws. Their enclosed courtyard is the perfect setting for a dog-friendly catch up and a puppuccino, and it even comes complete with a dedicated drinking area so you can rest assured your furry pal won’t go thirsty.

Bacchus wine bar, Henley Beach

If you prefer your dog-friendly dates with beachfront views and a glass of vino in hand, there’s no looking past a trip to Bacchus wine bar at Henley Beach. The bar turned weekend brunch spot is all about celebrating the best of South Australia - whether it’s their local wines, craft beers,  beachfront views or (of course) their  fluffy community. Complete with a dedicated pooch park and dog-friendly muffins, it’s a great spot to enjoy brekkie after a weekend stroll, but let’s be honest...it doesn’t get better than a sunset wine with the beach for a background and your favourite four-legged friend in tow!
