Beautiful winter design trends for your home

As a brand founded from a love for home interiors and contemporary design, Pooky & Boo homewares for pooch love keeping up with the latest trends in home décor. And we can’t think of a better excuse to embrace these interior trends than the start of a new season! With the cold weather well and truly setting in, winter is the time to turn those bright summer abodes into cosy sanctuaries that reflect our need for warmth and comfort. Here are a few of our favourite interior trends to incorporate into your home this winter.

Cosy colours

Whilst this year’s summer home trends were all about bold and bright colours, winter 2018 is the time to test out a deeper, warmer colour palette. Still embodying this year’s focus on bolder shades, this winter will see homeowners incorporating richer, darker colours into their décor, creating a warm and welcoming setting to offset the colder weather. With Pantone announcing Ultra Violet as the colour of the year for 2018, it’s a great time for interior-loving homeowners to incorporate deep purples and rich plums into their interiors. Given that florals are also set to be trending this season, we expect to see these colours incorporated into printed fabrics and floral artwork as well as block colour décor. And there’s no reason your pooch’s homewares can’t be a part of this!

Layer up

Whilst the Australian winter will see many of us layering up in terms of fashion, it’s also a great time to introduce some warmth into your home in the form of throws and rugs. One of the biggest trends to emerge this winter will be the layering of different textures and materials. If you want to explore this trend, try overlapping rugs, cushions and bedding to create a cosy winter atmosphere throughout the house. If you’re feeling brave, experiment by blending mixed prints and patterns as well as different textures and materials.

Pet owner’s tip: Pups need warmth in winter too, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of this trend by creating a snuggly sanctuary for  your pooch!

Oversized everything

Recent years have seen a move away from minimalism, with home trends focusing instead on materials and décor that add signature style and character into the home. This winter, we will see a continuation of this trend in different forms, with designers and homeowners incorporating statement furniture and oversized fabrics into their interiors. Whilst it’s a great time to bring out those chunky cable knits and oversized cushions for added cosiness, we will also see statement pieces of furniture such as luxurious sofas and handcrafted décor taking centre stage in modern homes. The bigger, the better, the cosier!

Soft textures

Textures play a big role in setting up the home for new seasons. Whilst summer trends were focused around lighter materials and natural textures such as woven wicker, this winter is all about warming up the home with rich, luxurious textures such as velvet and faux fur. These softer textures and heavier materials will help build a sense of coziness into the home whilst also injecting a little luxury and elegance into your interiors.

Pet owner’s tip: We recommend faux fur as the better option for pet owners, as it’s the perfect material for masking any unwanted signs of malting.
